Districk Forest Office Kaski (DFO) released four Bubo bubo (Eurasian Eagle-owl also known as huchil in Nepal), confiscated from the 4 houses of Bhedifaram and Ram Bazaar, at nearby Jayakot Community Forest in Pokhara on Friday. The two owls were found in the residences of Mr. Rohit Gurung and Mr Dila Ram Pun of Bhedifaram and other 2 were seized from two houses of Ram Bazaar. Five endangered owls were found in 4 People houses but one of them found dead, FOK officer Madhav Parsad Baral said. The FOK seized those owls as per the information of Roots and shoots Nepal staffers. Following the information, Animal rights Nepal also expressed its concern over the issue that according to Nepalese law, the taming of wildlife in the private residence is a taboo. After the FOK took 5 owls in control, Rohit Gurung said that he didn’t know that was illegal to preserve the birds at home. ‘I will not do this again’, Gurung and other people said with animalrightsnepal.org. Roots and Shoots country Coordinator Manoj Gautam said he got information about those owls from his source. “We are trying to find out the smuggler of owls to international market”, Gautam said. Eurasian eagle owls are smuggled to India, Pakistn and Gulf country . The forest office had to let go to the men with a warning due to lack of regulation.

  1. Its a very beautiful picture of disappearing bird “eurasian -owls.You are doing a challenging job

  2. I felt really glad to know that those endangered birds were realesed where they were belong to.I am so much interested on birds n animals, so hearing n knowing those kinds of news makes me really good.Thank you and keep it up.

  3. If you release a raptor that was not taught to hunt by its parents then he does not know how to hunt and will die.

This is a very misguided plan and I am shocked that a group like Roots and Shoots has NOT DONE BETTER RESEARCH. It is good to enforce no private ownership but you cannot just take a raptor that has been fed by humans and throw it into the wild expecting it to survive. You have signed a death warrant for these owls as sure as if you pulled the trigger yourself.

I am a long time donator to Jane Goodall’s organization and I am calling them today to complain of what you are doing in her name.

  4. Why donĀ“t you let those animals rehabilitate and then check if they can survive in the wild again? If you release them like this, they will definitely die… Thank you for killing those beautiful animals….
